No answers

So we still don't have any answers about Nathan.  I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get him seen by a pediatric neurologist.  The more I read and watch his behaviors, the more I think that the original diagnosis of ADHD is wrong.  I really feel like there is a sensory aspect to all of his behaviors/issues.  Of course, I am no doctor, but it seems to me that a diagnosis of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a better fit.
He has been on the a stimulant now for about 3 1/2 weeks, and hasn't shown much improvement.  I see that most of the things that were issues before are still issues.  I am really anxious about registering him for school, but I know that I have to do it for him, and for me.  I am frustrated, he is frustrated, and it makes for a very tense household!

  2. I understand completely what you are going through, the struggles and the fights with your child. Feeling guilty because you get angry, knowing it isn't their fault that they are misbehaving, but you feel they should "know better". I had alot of behavior issues with my daughter, who is now 5. Because she was not in daycare, and was a stay at home child, our pediatrician refused treatment for ADHD because he wanted to see how she would react in a structured environment. Like Nathan, Emily scored too high to get into school early, so we had to wait a year. And once we finally got her in school, we had major difficulties (which I knew we would!). Our doctor finally put her on Focalin, and it has made a world of difference. I understand that there are alot of misdiagnosis on ADHD, and medications given when it shouldn't, but I honestly believe that my daughter will have a much better school life because of the medication. She is actually able to sit at the desk, and complete a worksheet where as before she would be lucky to sit still enough until the worksheets were handed out. It was sad! And she still has her sweet personality, attitude and all, but it is no longer spastic!!! That is the best word I can use to describe her "BEFORE" self vs. her "AFTER" self. I will pray that Nathan gets the help he needs, and that you get the answers you need. But I hope you know that you aren't alone in your struggles, and I am always a message post away if you need to vent or just have someone with an understanding ear that has walked in your shoes!!!

  3. I'm sorry that y'all aren't getting any relief thus far. Do you have any idea when you'll be able to meet with another doctor? I feel like doctors don't take parents seriously these days. Really wish I could wave a wand and fix this for you.
